Our Tree Surgery services

We undertake all types of tree work for both domestic and commercial requirements Including 24HR Emergency call out Service  Our services include:

Removal and felling

We can take down and remove any type of tree. We have the appropriate equipment and training to deal with even the largest of specimens. Some reasons you may need to remove one or more trees are:

  • Preparation for building work, whether for a small domestic project, such as building a garage extension, or on commercial scale e.g. clearing a site for a housing estate
  • Diseased, damaged or dead trees. Trees can sustain disease and damage for many reasons and, of course, they eventually die. It is often the best option to remove a tree to maintain the health and safety of the surrounding area.
  • Tree poses a danger to health and safety. Storm damage in particular can cause a tree to pose a threat to people, animals or property. We offer a 24 hour emergency call out service for any tree that has become dangerous due to storm damage or for any other reason.
  • Light blockage. Sometimes a tree is blocking too much natural light and the only option is to remove it completely

Trimming and pruning

Sometimes it becomes necessary to trim or prune a tree either for health or aesthetic reasons. Some reasons a tree may require work are:

  • Dead or diseased limbs. Removal of these will often save the tree as a whole.
  • Fruit trees require annual pruning to improve fruit production the following year.
  • Overall look and health of the tree. Some specific treatments include:

  • Pollarding - this is a method of pruning trees or shrubs back to the trunk to keep them smaller than they would naturally grow. The upper branches of the tree are removed which promotes the growth of a dense head of foliage and branches at a lower height. This method is usually started once a tree or shrub reaches the desired height, and then annual pollarding will restrict the plant to that height. Pollarding can be done in order to restrict growth of a tree in a confined space, to create a formal shape, to encourage the production of stems with more colourful leaves and decorative bark or to produce larger than usual leaves. Pollarding should only be done on young plants and should not be used as a means of reducing growth on older trees.
  • Coppicing - this is a traditional pruning method where a tree or shrub is cut to ground level, resulting in regeneration of new stems from the base. Unlike pollarding, it is commonly used for rejuvenating and renovating old shrubs.
  • Crown raising – this is the removal of a tree’s lower branches and can used to reduce the weight of a tree and to allow more light to pass through the branches.
  • Crown reduction - may be used to reduce weight stress on individual branches or the whole tree, make the tree more suited to its immediate environment or to reduce the effects of shading and light loss.
  • Crown thinning - improves light and air circulation within the tree and to remove crossing branches for overall health.
